Redakce platformy Octopus Press požádala pražského kurátora Michala Novotného o text, který by prostřednictvím motivu ruiny reflektoval jeho vztah k Ostravě. Zcela jsme však ponechali na autorovi, jak své psaní specificky zacílí a čemu konkrétně se bude věnovat. Věděl také, že kromě samostatného publikování se text stane východiskem následné interpretace od Marka Pražáka, umělce působícího v Ostravě. Postřehy a pokusy lidí, kteří přicházejí odjinud, vyrovnat se s Ostravou totiž často podléhají určitým stereotypům. Pro ty, kteří zde žijí a tvoří, jde o mimořádně citlivý okamžik. Pokusili jsme se tedy zkonstruovat kvazidialogickou situaci s nezaručeným výsledkem, jejímž prostřednictvím chceme – kromě jiného – tuto často až traumatickou zkušenost tematizovat a artikulovat.

Michal Novotný is a curator and critic; he is presently the director of the Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art at the National Gallery Prague, and a lecturer at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Between 2011 and 2018 he transformed the Futura Centre for Contemporary Art into an influential institution which gained recognition on a European level. He worked with the PLATO city gallery from 2016 to 2018 as a member of its conceptual team and external curator.

Marek Pražák is a sculptor, musician, author, performer, designer and multimedia artist linked with Ostrava, which provides the themes for his diverse work. From 1986–1992 he studied at the department of machine and tool forming at the Zlín section of Prague’s Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. His interests also include scriptwriting and he has worked for the theatre, television and film. He was a member of the music groups Svoz řepy, Norská Trojka, Elvis Presley Epileptic Band and Elvis Sisters, Barovka, Duo Kotari and the Ostrava cabaret Návrat mistrů zábavy. He has also published the poetry collections Hallada o Olejovém městě (Ballad of an Oil Town) and Slezské hallady (Silesian Ballads).
